Tibetan Prayer Flags - Lungta (Wind Horse)

Lungta (Wind Horse): The most common type of prayer flag, lungta features a central image of a horse carrying the Three Jewels of Buddhism (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). The horse symbolises speed and the transformation of bad fortune into good fortune.

Tibetan prayer flags are a significant and traditional part of Tibetan Buddhist culture. These colourful flags are believed to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. They are often found fluttering in the wind across mountain passes, monasteries, temples, and homes throughout the Himalayan region.

The flags come in five colours, which represent the five elements:

• Blue: Sky and Space
• White: Air and Wind
• Red: Fire
• Green: Water
• Yellow: Earth
